HOW I WORK

I try not to define my style in a particular way, but let’s try putting some words to it! I work very naturally and unobtrusively; I basically hang out at your wedding documenting it as I see it!

My aim is to capture how it felt to be at your wedding, and definitely not to dictate any of the events. I’m not there to influence any of your wedding-planning decisions, or itinerary - that should just be about what YOU want. I’m there to document your wedding day as beautifully and creatively as I possibly can.

Natural Approach

It’s rare there’ll be a moment during your wedding that something isn’t happening (I hope!), so I’m constantly on the move trying to document everything that’s going on. Often it’s those images of moments between guests, usually missed by the wedding couple themselves, that end up being their favourites. I love when a couple tells me “I didn’t know you were there taking those”. My aim is not to be noticed for the majority of the day.

Portraits

You’ve probably found me on the back of some of my portraits - those ‘main shots’ that look so good for social media! In reality that’s actually a small part of your day. I’m sure you just want to have the best day, and that doesn’t include spending loads of time ‘posing’ for photos!! We need no longer than 10-15 minutes for you guys to have a little walk away (and a well-deserved break from the barrage of guests!). I tend to do this over two ‘windows’, with one later in the evening for that lovely, soft evening light. I don’t like to pose; it feels awkward for you guys, and awkwardness doesn’t photograph well. I may tell you to walk, or stand in a certain place - but I really bounce off you as a couple, and want to capture you and your personalities whilst you enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. I’m not trying to get anything too gimmicky, groundbreaking or ‘edgy’. I just want to get nice, relaxed, beautiful images of the two of you on your wedding day.

Group Photos

Even for couples who don’t like posing, and love the natural wedding photography, family group shots can still be an important part of your photographs. I got married myself a few years ago now, and I appreciate that all a couple want on their wedding day is to have a bloody good time!! You probably don’t want to be involved in an hour-long conveyor belt with multiple formations, all waiting for Uncle Brian who’s disappeared to the bar! If that is what you want, I may not be the photographer you’re after. However, I do realise how important it is to get a few quick shots with your parents, grandparents and/or bridal party, so I’ll usually set 10 minutes aside, grab the people we need and take the photos. I’m also not fussed about lining up straight, or whether it’s hands behind back, or in front - as long as everyone is in the shot, and looking at the camera; it’s all good! The less ‘formal’ the better!

Dancefloor

I love a good party, and let’s face it - this is why half of your guests are at your wedding!! Some of the best wedding action happens on the dancefloor, so you won’t see me packing my bags as soon as the first dance is finished! I’ll stay a little while into the evening reception to capture your guests, and their best moves! It’s the only time you’ll see a flash on my camera; either to add a little ambient light, or for creative effect

Everything else

So much can happen at a wedding, and lots of things come in and out of trend. I don’t like to dictate a day, but am happy to help arrange any photos ideas you might have. Whether you want a champagne spray, confetti lineup, pet dog appearance or you’re having sparklers - just let me know and we’ll arrange a suitable time in your day to get this captured!

Style

As I said, I don’t try to define my ‘style’ in a particular way. However, I did ask my lovely Instagram followers how they’d describe my work in up to 3 words. A fair number of people who left a comment are past clients, so have received a full set of images from me!
